Try playing around with the lock lever by sliding it back and forth a couple of times then try to open it. You won't be able to take the door apart with it closed. You should bring your car to a mechanic to have it fixed that's your best bet. I have a 92 Lumina coupe just like yours and I also had a problem with the drivers side door. the problem is that over the years the linkage that runs from the inside and out side door handles can get out of adjustment which will make opening the door difficult.

MOST TIMES i will just unbolt and remove the drivers seat first, this takes a whole 5 minuets, that way you can easily remove the interior door panel, as you need to have enough room to swing the bottom of the panel out-ward as you release it from the door,

Once you do this you can easily open the door and perform the necessary repairs to the linkage and latch assembly

I had the same problem... the plunger on the electrical solenoid that locks and unlocks the door came jumped out of position and will not let the mechinism go all the way to the unlock position the actuator is supposed to straddle the rod. simple fix is to secure the actuatoraround the rod with a wire tie to keep it from getting out of position

You will need to take the inside door panel off to find a broken part inside the door which you can get at the junk yard
