Factory refurbished means they have gone over the item that was previously used and often broken and fixed and/or replaced everything to make it worthy of selling once again. You can trust refurbished items usually and often they have some short warranty period similar to buying brand new.

A factory refurbished unit is a product that was returned by a customer for a reason and the factory decided it can be "refurbished" and resold. The unit is obviously not new. I personally would not by a factory refurbished unit. Its like buying a used car....you never know what you will get. Sure the factory will test the unit but their definition of testing is unknown. I could be as little as turning a vacuum on then off. I doubt they will do an extensive fix or test since time is money to companies. I'm not saying all products are bad but something with electronics or a lot of moving parts such as a vacuum cleaner... I would avoid unless it was really cheap. In addition these factory refurb units are sold by secondary sales outlets who don't or cannot honor a guarantee so if the unit goes south you will have to pay for the fixing cost. Money that could have been spent on buying a new unit with a new warranty. Hope this helps.

It means that the unit was sent to a factory-trained technician and all of the inner-workings of the machine were tested and/or replaced to make sure that it was working to factory standards. It is still a used machine, but it has been gone over and is in "like new" condition.

As far as purchasing one, it would depend on the type of vacuum cleaner we're talking about. A machine that started life as a cheap machine, is still going to be a cheap machine -- only a used, cheap machine. However, an expensive high-end machine like a "Kirby" would be well worth the money to purchase a used, factory-reconditioned unit.

It is a piece of equipment that once belonged to another person and they returned it to the store for whatever reason. Best Buy then fixes what was wrong with it and resells it at a lower price. They call this refurbishing.

It means it was returned & rebuilt. If it was a very big mark down from a new one I would buy it.
