I have Photoshop 6.0. The only colours its giving me is grey...?

I want to fill in an image with a colour, but when i go onto the colour picker and choose my colour, i click on it but all the program gives me is shades of grey! I need colour on my picture, not grey! How do I get the colour to be colour and not grey? Please help, this is important for my art!

That's because you are obviously working in grayscale mode. Go to Image: Mode: click on CMYK (or RGB). You will then have color.
