What do you like about books?

Like books in pages form, not on the internet. I like the single black words and the turning the pages, and the spine of books, I generally like the smell of the books.

    You spoke well. Anticipation.

Walk into a bookstore and take a deep breath. Ahhhh. It's funny...a month ago my granddaughter (she's 19) and I walked into a book store (not one of the popular chain stores) at a neighboring town's major mall. We both inhaled, looked at each other, shook our heads, and left. It wasn't a book store, it was a store that sold books along with a huge amount of doo-dads.

I am in the process of replacing books that were damaged by a fire several years ago. I so enjoy finding hardback ex-library copies. The covers remind me of my first encounter with the books. I know a good story is waiting to be re-read.

I do not read e-books. You can't take them with you. I carry a book wherever I go.

We had a good laugh the other night. Once we were seated and waiting for our server, the four of us pulled books out of pockets or purses and began to read. (Not because we can't visit with each other. We are together often and we get along very well. We all enjoy reading.)

Like the previous poster said - you can pull a book out of a pocket or a bag, you cannot easily pull a computer out of the back pocket. And for some reason reading on the screen is not the same as reading a book. Maybe because I cant read a computer screen in bed.

Long ago, a much younger ( and slimmer) boy would rush to his favorite teacher's class.

He'd find a seat close by and lean forward as if to catch every sound and keep it for himself till he could bring it home with him.

He was a quiet boy. But his eyes would light up and his smile seemed to spread wide as the class continued.

He loved to read. He found the company of strangers smelled of leather and printing ink.

The books would carry him along. It seemed each day the long voyage became a new one.

Each new friend was a new journey; each new day, another discovery.

Cooee Amazon! Wot you said! I love everything about books. It's my greatest passion. I read everything and anything - though I am partial to historically correct tomes. I have been known to do the odd fictional foray. Doesn't matter. Wherever I go - if there's a book to read I'll read it. Have spent the last 3 hours on the net, now I'll go and finish my book on Herbology and Its Uses. Prior to that read a book "Desert Flower" about a woman from Somalia who had undergone genital mutilation at the age of 7. Thought it was normal til she came to England. Became one of the best known models, Waris Dirie. Bryce Courtney is another of my favourites. Anything to do with the country of the author. History is my favourite. I better go now because I'm already running away.........

Hey there, fellow book-lover. Books bring out the best in your imagination. You conjure up images, feelings, sights and sounds. Films just give it to you readymade. The feel of books is beyond description, as is the smell of the pages. And collecting books -- that's my favourite thing. We recently shifted house and the number of cartons I needed for my books was amazing! I also like comparing covers of classics. My Alice in Winderland has a picture of Alice falling down the rabbit hole on the cover. I love to check covers of the other editions. That goes for other books too. It's fascinating. Thanks for this question -- loved it. Love reading the answers too.

    That's a tough one!

What's not to like about books? They're so amazing.

Reading is my absolute favorite thing to do.

Some times people just don't understand; they're like: why don't you take a nap and rest a bit? ot Why won't you sleep for a couple of hours and relax? They don't get the fact that reading is simply like relaxing and resting to me.

So; what do I like about them? I don't know. I just love them.

I like the unpredictability of a book.

I like the way you can get "lost" in them. They take you away from reality and into a different world.

I like the feel of books, and the wonder they inspire. They are little boxes of anticipation.
