How many dogs can you have in Nintendogs?

I have Nintendogs!!

    u can have 8 total dogs- 3 at home and 5 at the dog hotel (i have the game 2)

    3 at home and 4 or 5 in the doggy hotel

    you can have 3 at home but you can also store a few in the kennel
