Can someone get into the marines on a GED?

I have an 18 yr old friend that has had some 'issues' and had to withdraw from high school in order to get some treatment. He's looking to go into the marines as soon as he is well. Will they accept him with just a GED or does he have to have a diploma??

The Air rigidity is the main strict in this count. The Air rigidity helps decrease than one % of annual enlistments to be recruits without a extreme college degree. The Marines have the subsequent maximum standards. no greater beneficial than 5 % of Marine recruits could be GED-holders. the army helps no greater beneficial than ten % each and every 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, and the army limits GED enlistments to no greater beneficial than 5 to 10 % each and every 3 hundred and sixty 5 days.

YOU CAN JOIN THE MARINES WITH A GED AND 15 UNITS OF CREDIT. WHEN IT COMES TO THE MARINES THEY WANT QUALITY NOT QUANTITY THAT IS WHY THEY DO NOT TRY TO BUY YOU LIKE THE ARMY DOES. THE ONLY WAY HE COULD GET INTO THE MARINES WITH JUST A GED IS IF THEY WERE HURTING REALLY BAD THAT MONTH AND HE WAS THEIR LAST HOPE TO MAKE THEIR MISSION AND THEY PUT A WAIVER IN AND IT GOT OKAYED. BUT I WOULDN'T RELY ON THAT HAPPENING. MY HUSBAND IS A MARINE CORPS RECRUITER AND I WAS IN THE MARINES FOR 4 YEARS. ONE OF THE BEST DECISIONS I HAVE EVER MADE WAS TO JOIN THE MARINE CORPS. LOVED IT SO GLAD I WENT. YOU WILL ENJOY IT IF YOU GO. SEMPER FI

i have a ged and talked to a marine recruiter he told me i had to have some college credits cant remember how many.army allows geds without college though

the guy below me is wrong go to the marine website you can talk to a recruiter right there do it now he will tell you what i did

colonel below me might have joined with a ged but things change go to the marine website and ask a recruiter

thank you rebelette for giving an educated answer unlike these people gave a simple yes but he probably wont be able to get a waiver because he has issues its easier to choose another branch or to just go to college for a while then when you get in have the marine reimburse you

in reference to what teacher said the united states will not lower their standards for entry regardless of shortage not to mention the shortage of enlistees is not a real problem it is just a scare tactic by our media we are actually cutting back troops in irak we need less soldiers now then we did a couple of years ago

It depends on what his "issues" have been. Yes, a GED is acceptable, I think, if his other affairs are in order. The US is short of military members right now.

I'm not in the Marines (yet, I have a while) but I know for a fact that those with a G.E.D have to have 15 college credit hours.

Sounds like your friend will fit in just fine with Uncle Sams Misguided Children (USMC) with him having issues and all.

Yes, you can join the Marines with a GED.

Source(s): I joined with only a GED and a questionable past.
