I believe that anytime we mention GOD it should be in a manner of praise or in prayer. I DO NOT use that expression and I don't suggest using it but I also do NOT judge you for doing so. GOD will judge your intentions. How do others view it? Does it allow them to see How YOU should view HIM?? I hope that you think of this as you say it. Have a great week. Our answer should come from HIS BOOK, not man's creeds or traditions.

No, for one thing his name is not God. God is a title. In the Old Testement the meaning of taking God;s name in vain was if you vowed something in his name and then broke that bow, that is what taking God's name in vain is about not about saying OMG or variations of the word god.

For example there are many Judges in this world and if you were to use the term judge in a vain way, you would not be using a particular jegese name in vain, but if the jegdes name as DaffyDuck and used that name in vain then that would be using Daffy Ducks name in vain. See the difference?

you have to understand what the greater meaning of saying gods name in vain really mean.

i had an argument with a jehova witness. and though he was adamant about god not being his name it was very evident that he could cuss better than me. LOL

Many people in religion can call upon gods name, just like the JW and change every reference to god in their scripture and USE it effortlessly without shame but they would use it so much that his name becomes meaningless. Many people pray with their lips and not in their hearts. These things are Using gods name in vain.

Cussing with god is kinda saying gods name in vain but in reality its not really his name. I once said God... as if i was starting to say a prayer in the presense of classmates. And a girl rebuked me for saying his name in vain. When in fact it was more like a prayer that offered up my heart to Him. I never believed it was calling upon god in vain, nor did i see it that from thereafter.

The G could stand for something other than god.

There are tons of words starting with the letter G. Just look in the dictionary.

    So, the answer is NO.

Dear Jessica, yes, using Gods name in any way other than to bring Honor and glory to him is considered blasphemy. if you think about it, it makes sinse, when have you ever heard someone use hitlers name like that? well, you hardly ever hear it to be honest, if hitlers name is not even despised enough to be used like that, then why would we take Gods Holy name in vain and blapsheme when he has given us the breath in our lungs and the heart that beats? The BIble also says in conclusion, "God will not hold him guiltess who uses his name in vain." in other words, God sees blapshemy as very serious offense. He laos says he will punish all liars and blasphemers and thieves and fornicators in the lake of fire. if you and I have broken Gods Ten Commandments we have sinned against him and slured his name. The Punishment fits the crime, However Jesus suffered and died on the cross for us, God loved us despite the fact we have transgressed his Law and slandered his name. Jesus blood was shed for every sin, and if you and I will repent and trust in jesus, God will forgive us and grant us eternal life. what great news!

    God Bless
