Why does my iPod not work when it is not on charge or in a docking station?(even if it is fully charged)?

it was recently put in a bit of water (only the base)

and all the songs etc remain.

It's too bad that the base got in the water, because if any other area of your iPod had been put in water, it would have probably survived. If water got into the dock connector, my guess is that you'll have to either replace the battery and hard drive, or get a new one. It's about the same cost wise!
