Fewer than one in ten people have a faith that differs from that of their parents (Michael Shermer "How We believe")

Even in these modern days of world-wide travel that is still going to mean a large match with geography too.

Have a look at these maps to see what that means for Christian denominations in the USA, for example.

But that doesn't mean that what you believe doesn't matter (It could lead you into war with another belief, for starters!). But it does mean everyone has their own particular starting point, and set of unchecked beliefs, biases and blindspots.

sure, geographical barriers would be on the topic of religion. and you may go extra down into guy or woman sects as nicely. in basic terms look at Iraq. An Iraqi baby is probably to be raised to be Islamic. even regardless of the indisputable fact that, In Baghdad they're going to in all risk be a Sunni. In Karabala they're going to likely be a Shi'ite. And in the a procedures north, a Turkish Kurd.

Religion is a myth created by power hungry priests as another political strangle hold over people. The true stories of the bible/koran/etc are found on archeological stones that predate religion by thousands of years. These stories tell tales of real people and real cultures within a scientifically verifiable context. So to answer your question, people are stupid and close-minded and engage in too much fantasy worship.

Absolutely. Geography (the place where you're borned and brought up) contributes to what one will believe in. However the biggest factor for me that influences one's religion is indeed one's bringing up (parents). If your parents (the people you would naturally trust most) are Christian and teach you the beliefs of christianity and then tell you that they are correct, you are bound to believe in christianity, likewise with one of muslim/hindu/buddhist parents.

If you want to look at it this way, then you will be blind to the fact that many Jews was born out of Israel & now Those Jews that was NOT born in Israel are now begining to move to Israel, In fact we just had some from The United States that was born here, Moved to Israel within the last few weeks.

i was raised in a predominantly christian nation by methodist parents and attended a Catholic High School.....but I am an atheist. On the macro level I am sure geography has a good deal to do with it, but not on the individual level

not necessarily : i was born (and have been living in) a Buddhist country, but i'm a Muslim.

but i guess religion is mainly related to the sort of exposure u receive, and sometimes your family background

    Great Question..!!!

I could not agree more, and not just 'geography' but WHO you are raised by specifically following what is prevalent in that geographical area.

Geography is nice and all that, but in the end its the conscience choices you've made that will decide.
