I think that is a question that you really need to answer. Why do adult people of all ages, all around the world, in all languages, throughout all of history, and all intellectual levels, and all educational levels keep believing these "fairy tales" about God. Maybe there is something that you are missing here.Do you think all those billions of people are wrong and you are one of the few enlightened ones.

Actually I believe that fairy tales and ghost stories were originally for adults around the campfire after a hard days work. These evolved into religion which evolved into greed and dogma. Once there, then adults seem to think that their old jokes would be fun to tell to their kids. Since not many of the people had immense libraries at their fingertips, not much cross-referencing has happened until now. Now as a global community we get to argue over silly little trifles until a majority of us are satisfied and we move on to the next step in our collective evolution.

I do believe that it is truly impossible to teach everything at once to anyone, so 'stories' and 'fairy tails' are helpful in communicating complex ideas to a less structured mind. Just as addition and subtraction is generally taught first in math, there are spiritual principles that not everyone gets on the first read through. A good example of this is the Course in Miracles. I know very few people who can read it and comprehend it's meaning the first time through. So, this could be evidence that most people are still infantile in their spirituality? I wont be that harsh, but I do believe there are very few true masters now living. I am blessed to know one.

Of course they're for little children. They're also for big children of all ages! You could call any work of fiction a fairy tale. The old stories "for adults" are usually referred to as "mythology," and many are based on more fact than we're willing to believe. The Brothers Grimm were onto something when they compiled many of those old tales.

Tales and legends are for all age. They are often interesting and fun to read. Problem arise when some people forget that they are just work of fiction and start thinking that the characters are real. It's a mental disorder called delusional schizophrenia. It can now be treated using zyprexa. (Use only as directed, see a doctor).

Some religious people believe in the spirit/meaning of such tales but do not take them literally.

My favorite fairy tale is about how once upon a time there was nothing, it was spinning (what was spinning? -- nothing) there was a big bang (what caused the big bang? -- nothing) and it went spinning off into space (what went spinning off into space? -- enough to seed? the universe) .....

You get the idea. From nothing, with no intelligence, came all that there is. we get the whole frog to prince story, only now it takes billions of years instead of a kiss.

And, no, I don't see how anyone can believe such a silly fairy tale.

Why do you feel the need to disparage belief? It gives people something to hope for. Wake up, get dressed, work 8-10 hrs, go home, wake up...etc. People love to hope. Mabey if we are lucky, there is something more than the drudgery of life or the hopelessnes of partying all the time.
