should vinegar making be placed in a tightly closed container or a container which allows air to pass in?

i'm talking of the fermentation process in vinegar making for molds prevention

    The main thing is to keep out the light in vinegar making as this could kill the culture. So i would suggest a tightly closed container in a dark place. And also make sure there is sufficient air inside
