What kind of salad should I serve with a lasagna dinner?

Please be specific as to which ingredients you'd use in the salad.

Also, no pasta salads, just green salads.

    With lasagna, I like to serve a salad with a combination of greens. I use Romaine as a base (about 40 to 60 percent), then add a mixture of greens such as arugula, bibb, red leaf, radicchio, escarole, or whatever is available at the market.

    You can buy pre-packaged salad greens, too. They're great if you only need 3 or 4 servings. The baby greens are a favorite of mine. They have a mild flavor that won't overpower a vinaigrette dressing or pasta sauces. They are fragile and bruise easily, so treat them kindly.

    Accent your salad with garlic croutons, carrot slivers, thinly sliced cucumbers, mushrooms, or red onions.

    Lasagna is kind of heavy and rich so I would not go with the caesar salad because of it's richness. I would serve a plain garden salad with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and an Italian dressing to stay in the Italian theme of the meal, but any dressing would work depending on taste. The freshness of the garden salad balances the lasagna better I think.

    Just lettuce with tomatoe wedges would be wonderful with dressing drizzled over it and some breadsticks or garlic bread.

    An antipasto salad is also great with lasagna. You can search for a recipe on foodtv.com They usually include romaine lettuce with hard salami, provolone cheese, red beans, chick peas, tomatoes, and a red wine vinaigrette that you can buy at the store. It is a little different than just a regular toss salad.

    With lasagna I like a nice garden salad consisting of lettuce, tomatoes, onion, and cucumber/ranch dressing. The coolness of the cucumber and ranch dressing add a contrast to the spicy lasagna.

    Italian Vegetable Salad

    Prep Time: 15 min

    Total Time: 2 hr 15 min

    Makes: 6 serving

    1 pkg. GOOD SEASONS Italian Salad Dressing & Recipe Mix

    1/4 cup plus 3 Tbsp. water

    1/4 cup vinegar

    1/4 cup vegetable oil

    1 pkg. (9 oz.) DI GIORNO Three Cheese Tortellini, cooked, rinsed and drained

    1 small zucchini, cut in half lengthwise, sliced

    1/2 green pepper, chopped

    1/2 red pepper, chopped

    1/2 cup halved cherry tomatoes

    2 green onions, diagonally sliced

    PLACE dressing mix, water and vinegar in cruet or other container with tight-fitting lid. Add oil; cover. Shake until well blended.

    PLACE remaining ingredients in large bowl. Add 1/2 cup of the dressing; toss lightly. Cover.

    REFRIGERATE at least 2 hours. Stir before serving.

    What ever salad vegetables you use a grreat italina balsamic dressing is 3 parts oil, one part good balsamic vinegar anda teaspoon of sugar. It will really highten the flavour of the salad and make sure your lasagna still takes center stage!

    You should use Romaine lettuce, or a mixture of Romaine & Lettuce. To this, add olives, cucumber, tomato, red onion & garlic. Sprinkle with salt, add freshly ground pepper, oregano & some grated Parmesan cheese. Add wine vinegar & olive oil & toss well. I make this salad all the time, & everyone loves it.

    A simple just green salad itz the best, because lasagna itz a rich dish itself so, go simple go green!

    I'd agree with the others that Caesar Salad would be the best choice.
