byte

a unit of storage capable of holding a single character

kilobyte 2 to the 10th power 1,024

megabyte 2 to the 20th power 1,048,576

gigabyte 2 to the 30th power 1,073,741,824 === 1,024 megabytes

terabyte 2 to the 40th power 1,099,511,627,776 approximately 1 trillion bytes.

petabyte 2 to the 50th power 1,125,899,906,842,624 === 1,024 terabytes

Depends on how it's marketed; this is always a tricky one.

In data storage, 1024 MB equals one gigabyte. When hard drives, desktops, and more are marketed with having "X GB of hard drive space", they are assuming a measurement of 1000 MB per gigabyte. So buying a new hard drive advertised with 200 GB of space has 200 GB if you consider every 1000 MB to be a GB. In reality you're getting 200000 MB, which will equal 195 GB if you do the division.

Also, some additional space will be lost due to formatting. There is no way around it. Hope that helps.

1024 mb = 1 gb

the same as say

1024 b = 1 kb

1024 kb = 1 mb

1 Gigabytes = 1024 Megabytes
