If someone owes you money, what is a polite assertive way to ask for it back?

Someone owes me money and I want it back. She's had it over a few months now and always makes mention of paying me back soon but hasn't. What can I say to get my money back? I know she gets paid tomorrow.

You should not have to ask for your money,

it happens to everyone,Example #! (self acknowlegement of debt on my part and not paying it back) only means that I will pay you when I'm ready to pay you!! don't hassle me!!. Thats the first, the second example #2 I know I owe you after all this time (but) I can't pay you untill other debts are paid. These debts were way after she borrowed from you. Tomorrow is no different from today while a person owes you. Listen to this saying: As long as I owe you, you'll never go broke. Well, take this as a learning tool, never give what you don't have. Meaning: never have reservations of getting anything back from anyone if you're not certain he/she will pay it back! take it as a lost, and don't get upset. if there is a next time, give it from the heart without reservations of ever getting it back, no matter how much it is.

First of all you should never lend money to someone unless you can stand not to ever get it back. Outside of that, there isn't really a nice way to do it. If the person is a friend, they probably won't be a friend long. If they aren't a friend why did you lend them money in the first place?

As far as etiquette goes you should just consider the money a loss and move on...

    Plan ahead.

Let her know that you have a special need for that money.

That you are relying on her to have the money for you at a certain time. ( Coincide with her payday )

Ask her if you can pick it up from her at work.

Tell her how lending her the money has worked out because if you hadnt lent her $$$$ you would have nowhere to go to get the $$$ you need.

This will work on an honourable person, but for anyone else I advise heavy tactics

    Just say:

"so you got the money now that you got paid right? I wouldn't be trippin about it if I didn't need it but I do?"

A real friend wouldn't give you the run around, they would tell you exactly what going on the reason they dont have it or cant pay

OK resolve yourself to deal with this.

Call her tonight and say " Jen you know that $10.00 I lent you a while back ? I am going be needing that back tomorrow when you get paid . What time should I be over to get it Jen ? "

get her answer then change the subject be nice and chat a while. at the near end of your talk say "OK I'll be seeing tomorrow at 9 Good night" go and get your money !

well..I would say you ask her politely. Maybe she intends to give you back the money but hasn't gotten around to it so give her the benefit of the doubt and say.."I know u're getting paid tomorrow, do you think you can pay me back..I need the money.."., Good Luck

I think the best way is to work out a payment plan. Ask her how much can you afford to pay me each payday? Then write it down on a piece of paper what the agreement is and have her sign it.

I would say it straight "Now that the holidays have past, I'd like to discuss repayment of that loan I gave you a few months ago."

Just ask her for it. The holidays probably had her strapped. I'm real blunt. I would just say "Are you going to be able to pay me back tommorow or do we need to make a payment plan?"

Say.........<name>, I need you to return my loan tomorrow when you get your pay. I need the money desperately.

If she doesn't pay you back, tell her that when she asked for the loan you immediately gave her the money, is it so hard for her to repay it immediately now that you ask her for it? Your response to her plight was instant, now her response to your request should be instant too.

    Consider dumping her.
