Religious observation. All comments from all viewpoints are welcome.?

If Adam and Eve both gave us natural sin by obtaining the knowledge of good and evil by eating from a tree of the same name, why then does it seem that we need only take a quick look around to convince ourselves of the minuscule possibility that it may never have happened.

Update:

If I may expand a little bit further, I'd like to say that first and foremost I mean no disrespect to anyone or any belief system that calls on a higher power regardless of which or how many (or if any) deities are chosen, including those who choose to see themselves as their own deity.

What I mean by "a quick look around" is seeing and hearing the religious persecution stories from as far back as we can collectively remember through the stories we are given by the media even today are still showing me that we as people have never held a universal ideal of what is good, or what is evil.

What I see as a complete waste of life is another souls vision of righteous indignation.

"It may never have happened" ... This means to me that the possibility exists that humans may never have been in agreement with what is considered good or evil in spite of that which some consider to be "God breathed text", no matter which "Text" they have claimed to be "God Breathed".

You are going to have to give a few more details as to what you mean. Adam and Eve did not sin before that point in time. Are you just saying that it's hard to believe that there was a time that there was no sin in the world? Then yes, I do agree, nowadays it is hard to believe that once there was no sin.

"why then does it seem that we need only take a quick look around to convince ourselves of the minuscule possibility that it may never have happened."

    Easy.

It is a creation myth like all others that came before it and all others that have sprung up since that time. It was used as a means of explaining how the universe came into being as well as how life began on our planet. But...

Unlike earlier creation myths which glorified the feminine divine, the creation myth of Genesis does everything it can to demonize the female gender. This simple fact has done more to harm women through acts against them like the Inquisition. The Inquisition brought into being through the publication of Malleus Maleficarum - a direct hit against women. To a lessor degree it has also harmed men by falsely proclaiming them to be superior. This has separated them from their feminine side, plus undermined their ability to have meaningful relationships with women.

If we are to glorify any creation myth, perhaps we should go back to the source. The Mother Goddess. At the very least that myth did no harm to men and gave some respect to the female gender. And...

If you actually take a moment, and have a look around you, as you say, it becomes plainly obvious that both genders are equal and of vital importance to our species. 'Nuf said, as they say!

The story of Adam and Eve is not necesarily the exact truth. The whole story is actually symbolism. The Garden was peace and happiness, which they were forced away from because they disobeyed God.

    The miniscule possibility? LOL!

People eating fruit and suddenly becoming sufficiently self-aware to earn their own expulsion from paradise.

It only takes a quick look around to realize how unlikely that is.

  • First of all, it is only Christians who believe in original sin, and that humans are in a state of sin.

Jews and Muslims believe sin is an act, not a state of being.

minuscule possibility-more like a huge possibility that it never happened -we would all be retarded or deformed if we only had one ancestral bloodline-and we are not a 6000 year old species either-more like millions and the world is in FACT 4.5 billion years old or older

I am pagan, Wicca is my religion, and I think it is just another nice myth to help us understand that which cannot be understood.
