What exactly is a hyper-power? China holds more trade status in the world, than the US, and is quickly overtaking the US as the worlds largest consumer. They have nuclear capabilities, as well as the world's largest standing military, and control vast blocks of political influence. Doesn't that qualify China as a hyper-power? One could also argue the same for Russia. I think perhaps the French coinage of the hyphonated word "hyper-power" may have been more of an opinion painting the US in a negative light, than an actual poli-sci term.

Hegonomic power or even super power would be more correct terms. No, empires always collapse and the US will do so soon the way it's going plus China and Russia are catching up.

Then again, maybe we have entered a new age where global coorporations have taken over and the power of nations matters little. In that case, it's all up to them and how they get the most profit.

Considering that China is the fastest growing economy, has billions more people, and will bypass us technologically in the next decade, I believe that we not only will lose our place as a hyper-power, but will take a back step similar to Brittain.

The good news is, the changes that came to the U.S. came gradually, and we as a culture moved slowly to where we are now. In China, it moved very quickly and the next gen there will be very consumeristic, even more so than us. I think they will fall apart much sooner than we will and we can jump back up to take over again.

Like any great empire throughout history, the most probable cause of the U.S. losing prominence or collapsing altogether will be the neglect of domestic issues. Yes, we will continue to thrive at present, but if domestic issues are allowed to fester, the U.S. will eventually meet the same end as other empires, such as Ancient Rome.

We will not. The reason is because our presidents are too power hungry. With this power hunger, they get out of control and try to get too much power than that which they can control, leading to too much power (a bad thing) wich they cannot handle which in the end will lead to the inevitable decline of the United State's world power, we are leaders now, if we don't do anything, we are just killing ourselves. I recommend moving to somewhere in Europe, that's what im gonna do!
