You should not have to go into the registry to adjust or see the startup sounds. Just go into:

    START

    - Control Panel

    - Sounds and Audio Devices

Look at or change the Startup sound there. The wave files for the sounds in XP are located in the C:\Windows\Media folder.

    Hi

Ok , it would be easy if you just open control panel and open sound there is where you can configure what sounds you want and for what event you want . Now the file where ALL the build in sounds are in xp are in C:\windows\media

Your question is pretty vague, but if you want to change or turn off the startup sound, just go to control panel and click on sounds. You can change them there.
