What is an "Un Sub" mentioned on Criminal Minds?

Sevral times on the series "Criminal Minds" they mention the Un Sub - now I know that it means the perpetrator of the crime that they are trying to solve, however, is "Un Sub" an English derivation for Undercover Subject? or perhaps Uncovered Subversion? Give me your guesses - first one that appeals to my sense of dictionariness, gets 10 points.

That's funny I recently asked myself the same thing. Big Criminal Minds Fan. Anyway, it means unknown subject of an investigation.

Unknown Subject - on Law and Order, the cops refer to "perps", but FBI tend to call them UnSubs.

It's unknown subject. Meaning, they don't know yet who their perpetrator is.
