Are you asking how much you would get paid to work for a groomer, or how much per dog that someone would pay a groomer?

I couldn't answer how much you would get paid to work for a groomer. But, I can answer how much someone would pay a groomer.

When I just get my small dogs brushed, bathed and their nails trimmed, I pay $15 per dog. When the dogs are trimmed on top of that, I usually pay $25 to $30 per dog.

What groomers get paid seems to vary wildly, from what I've read here! Wow. I have always been paid on commission (piece-meal, as one said). When I first started grooming over 20 years ago, I was paid 50% of what each dog's groom cost. I had to pay the bather out of my own pocket (sub-contractor). After getting a few years' experience under my belt, I was paid 60% plus I bathed my own dogs. I still make 60% but rarely bathe (I get 65% when I do), and I average about $30-35 an hour. (and yes, I work full-time)

Ironically, my family *still* doesn't regard what I do as a "real" job because all I do is "play with puppies all day". If they only had a clue.....

Dogs like Schnauzers only take about an hr to groom (providing they set still and don't bite or throw a fit), so what ever they are charging, that is what they make an hr. I get paid $20, so I make $20 an hr. Other dogs like cockers...it takes about 2 hrs to do them (or so if they are matted, and as described above), so that cuts the hr/pay down to 1/2...I get paid $30 for cockers, so in this case I only make $7.50/$15 an hr. Bigger dogs that take longer, cut it down to about $4.50 an hr (I Love to groom, so do this as a hobby (have a Mon-Fri job), so I don't have the big cage dryer like a store would have). I only make about $400 a yr...like I said, it is a hobby, and sometimes I do it for free. I groom my friends and families dogs, so they feel guilty for not paying :)

I would guess on average (for the yr after taxes), that a groomer gets paid between $14,000 and 25,000 a yr. I did not factor in the cost of running the shop though...rent, elect., telephone, advertisements. If you are talking weekly or monthly, that is just accourding how many dogs you can get done in an 8hr period.

There is good money in grooming though, I just don't think you will get rich doing it. You have to love doing it, because if it ever "becomes" a job, you will began to hate it.

Depends on where they are grooming. In a shop with other groomers, and a couple of bathers, it is done like piece work.

There are three steps to grooming, rough in, brush & bath & finish. First off half of what is charged goes to the shop, the half remaining is divided into 3rds, 1/3 for the rough in, 1/3 for brush &bath, 1/3 for the finish.

I opened a shop in my home and my average income was close to $7,000.00 a year. Not a lot of money but I really enjoyed my work. I took my time, never rushed, did my job. I specialized in behavioral problems so I did quite a few nasty tempered little beasties, it takes awhile to do them, they want to fight you with every thing you doing. Just takes time & they calm down.

I was told one time that her dogs always behaved better after picking them up from me.

Depends on where you work & how busy they are.

A Petsmart groomer in a large city makes $600 weekly on average.
