How can you tell when a chameleon is dead?

Just a question - old chameleon and we're not sure if it's natural to be unresponsive for prolonged periods of time.

  • since they don't have body heat, the cold thing will not help! the person who said put heat on it is you best bet. make sure the temp is right in the cage for about 2 hour, then touch it. is should move, if not it's prob. dead.

When it starts to stink more than usual then it's probably dead. When it becomes completely dessicated and is hard as a stick then it is definitely dead.

It its cold, it may have simply stopped moving and gone into hibernation. Keep it nicely warm for a good while and if it still hasn't moved when you gently poke & prod it, its likely dead.

Well let's see, if he starts to smell bad and feel cold, and part of his inner body starts showing or he is mushy, then he's dead.

Well did you check his little bitty heart to see if it was beating? If it goes to smelling rank I would think it were dead.

Not to be smart, but if its not moving, not breathing, and its skin is looking shriveled... most likely he's moved on...
