Is it possible to get over my ex and be best friends with him?

My ex and I broke up about 2 weeks ago and we decided to still be best friends because we are best friends, and lovers. Just not the lover part anymore. It feels so hard because I still see him almost everyday and I dont want to loose this friendship with him, because he has been a good friend during these last two years, just a bad boyfriend. He's already moving on by dating and still maintaining to be friends with me. So I think its possible to stay friends, but how else can I move on while still being best friends with him?

It is quite possible. I am doing exactly that right now, and though it seems crazy to people, it is working famously. Sometimes, we try to make intimate relationships out of something that should really have just been a good friendship. If that's the case, you can still be friends. If you are jealous of other women, though, that will impair your abilitiy to be a good friend and may indicate that you are not really over him.

Well I think it is still possible to be friends with your ex. My ex and I are actually better off as friends then we were as lovers. Just try not to see him everyday...Pckup a hobbie or something that take your time away from seeing him. Hang out with your friends more and go out meet new people. Do the things you always wanted to do but did not. And its ok to call and see him every now and again just to catch up and be "friends" ..

I really don't think you will be able to. Once a person crosses over from a friend to a boyfriend and you connect on a lover's level it is very diffcult to go back to being friends. It must be so hard for you to sit back and watch as new people come into his life, I really think you should let it go and just move on all together

You may fool yourself into thinking you can do both, but there is no way you can get over your boyfriend until you both take some time/space away from each other. Agreeing to be best friends is jumping the gun because after the breakup is final, and you have both moved on/gotten over each other, you will both be different people. Don't torture yourself by hanging around with him or talking to him.

Source(s): I tried to do the same.

First you will need to go out and have a rebound one night stand, this will not only relieve some tension but it will help you realize that their are more guys than him out there. Next you need to start going on some meaningful dates with some good guys (I wish I could recommend some, but they are like the panda 30 years ago if you know what I mean). Finally, have a good hard rowdy one nighter with him and then..never sleep with him again. These three things will give you all the cards and make him your slave!!

Hey! That's gonna be a little hard o do, it sounds like you still have feeling for him. I mean, do the same as he is doing date other people or see him as less as possible and only when you want to hang out!

    good luck

Well if you still have some sort of feeling for him in a romantic way then you should just give yourself some space cause if he's moving on - obviously he don't care about you that way (romantically) so you should as well. If you still have something for him in this way then tell him or if it won't work out then just give yourself some space to heal and move on as well.

Hope it works out for both of you.

I would have to say no.

How can you be his best friend? Wont it bother you to see him with another woman? Best friends share everything, do you really want to hear about what she does for him?

Its tough. I was never able to do it, nor has anyone I have ever known. They either got back together or it blew up in their faces and it was a horrible painful ending.

I would cut your losses and move on.

  • To be honest, it's going to be real hard to remain good friends with someone who you use to have a romantic relationship with.

You can give it a try, but one of two things will happen...A)you'll wind up back in the sack together, or B) you will slowly drift apart and never see one another again.
