The real Villa von Trapp is in Aigen, 30 miles northwest of Linz in the very north of Austria near the German and Czech borders. After departing Austria in 1938, Georg von Trapp arranged for the Villa von Trapp to be sold to the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, a Catholic community for men. The Nazis, though, had other plans. In 1939 the Villa von Trapp became a headquarters for the infamous Heinrich Himmler, Reichsführer and head of the SS storm troopers. Himmler built the white wall that now surrounds the property.

After the war, the building was returned to the Missionaries of the Precious Blood. They use the building today for provincial offices and as quarters for the Kolleg St. Josef, a facility for seminarians. In l2001 the International Centre for Culture & Management (ICCM) moved to the Kolleg St. Josef, as well.

The Villa von Trapp in the film "The Sound of Music" is a combination of several Salzburg locations, none of them the original von Trapp home. The tree-shaded lane, where Maria alights from the bus, is Hellbrunner Allee, running south from the old town. Schloss Frohnburg, a 17th century country house, now the Mozarteum Music Academy, was used for the intimidating gates and front entrance of the villa. The lakeside terrace was filmed at Schloss Leopoldskron, a rococo castle on Leopoldskroner Teich, a small artificial lake on the southwest of the town.

I LOVED THE FILM THE SOUND OF MUSIC, WHICH I SAW LONG TIME AGO, AND THE MAYOR´S BUREAU OF CHACAO CULTURAL CENTER IS SHOWING FAMOUS FILMS ONCE A WEEK.

IN USA, AT THE NORTH, NEAR FINGER LAKES, I SAW SEVERAL HOUSES GERMAN STYLE AND I WAS TOLD THAT THEY BELONG TO THE VON TRAPP FAMILY. IN HIS S ECOND MARRIAGE, HE HAD 3 CHILDREN, SO THE TOTAL OF 10 CHILDREN WERE RAISED IN USA.

The home actually used in the "Sound of Music" is actually located in a suburb of London.

However, the actual von Trapp family home (the one in Saltzburg) is still standing. It is about 40 minutes out of the city, and is privately owned. Tours are available that drive by, but interior access is not permitted.
