Why do some of you believe that atheists have no belief system?
The atheist doesn't subscribe to the ideas propagated by those who choose to believe in a deity. It makes no sense that any human description of a creator would have any validity anywhere in the universe except in the anthropocentric, geocentric human mind.

I think that an atheist must have a faith even greater than a believer. There are millions upon millions of variables that would be needed to create the earth, perfect placement, harmony of plant life, self awareness, science and advancement

Everybody has a belief system no matter how primitive they are or how simplistic that system is. A child that has developed full self awareness, say around five years of age, has a belief system. There is an inborn sense of a higher power, that none of us exists unto himself totally. I have believed in God for as long as I can remember, but I do not recall ever having been taught this. I was not raised in a religious household, and I was not taught about Jesus until I was a young adult. However, I have always had a conscious awareness of God, and this awareness has guided me in my moral living----not to say that I have always been an angel, for that would be lie. But to deny the existence of God is to deny a part of the self that you were born with. All these fancy terms you come up with is just a lot of gobledy-goop that shows that you do not understand theism. When the Bible says that we are made in God's image, this means that we were originally crafted after his holiness, and that Adam and Eve lived in a state of holiness prior to the fall of man. It is this holiness that we are to pursue, the first estate that we are to get back to.

I'd much rather refer to myself as a skeptic. I need proof for any statement that is made. I believe the world is round because I have personally experienced the effects of a round Earth, the changes in time zones, angle of the Sun at different latitudes, photographic evidence from space. I don't believe in things that can't be proved. Santa Clause, The Easter Bunny, Fairies, ghosts, spirits, or gods.

This is because the religious types have warped the essential meanings of words like "belief" and "faith." When they say them, it's shorthand for "belief in god" and "faith that the whole silly story is true."
Both belief and faith are mental structures that must be based on evidence or data to be valid. One can park one's car in the driveway and go to bed with the belief that the car will be there in the morning and have faith that it will be based on the evidence that he's done this hundreds of times before, locked the car and the garage, and the car has always been there in the past.
This example is the true use of "belief" in the human mind. It allows for one to deal with situations outside one's perceptions. When bad data is given to this mechanism, false belief is fostered in the mind.

because the term atheist means you don't believe in a god. if you believe that there could be a god but all religions are wrong or the god is not personal or you'd need proof, etc, or if you are very much against a g-d (you can't hate something you don't believe exists) then you are agnostic.
edit: Buddhists believe that there could be gods- nirvana is rising above even them.
Taoists believe in a collective energy

Absolutely. In fact, Buddhists are atheists, and they certainly have a belief system. Taoists too, since the Tao isn't conceived of as an entity. People with no belief system are Nihlists, not Atheists.

The only characteristic of an atheist is that they lack a belief in any god(s). Beyond that, you are no longer speaking about atheism.

because that is what we have been taught. Sorry if we offended you guys, but athiest offend belivers more than belivers offend athiests.
I have been called a liar, talked down to, and A LOT worse by athiests on this site.
If you guys let us belive in what we do freely and don't blow up at us for it, maybe we will stop talking about you.

But we do not try to describe what God looks like. We only know what he has told us through the Prophets and his Son, Jesus.
Peace be with you.
By the way, I know some Atheists that are good people.
