i need to know how to replace the starter on a 96 chevy v6 truck.?
It seems to be hanging up on the motor mount. Do i need to remove the motor mount to get it out or is there another way?

Buy a Haines or Chilton manual for your make and model vehicle.

There is usually a strap from the brush plate to the block on Chevys. It can be hard to see on some rigs. It usually has a small (about 3/8 nut) on the brush cap. Take this off. There is usually a bolt (about 1/2 or 9/16) on the block end of the strap (or brace). You shoulb be able to just loosen this one and swing the brace up out of the way. Most times things are pretty tight. On most, it is easier to lift the starter up over the mount and then drop the bendix end down and out. Once it is hanging on the wires, you can then take the wires loose.

It should come out if all the bolts are removed. If the cable from the battery is still connected, this will prevent removal, also the two or three small wires must be removed.Good luck(The cover over bellhousing may also have to be removed,7MM I think, about 4 or 5 bolts)

after you pull the starter bolts out, slide it as far back as you can then go, cone end first, down and to the rear
