Macy's is a typical department store - and it is honestly very difficult to register at anything OTHER than a typical department store for your wedding. As long as you have a good range of prices, there is nothing to feel guilty about. Realistically, there are a lot of less expensive items you will need in setting up your own home and not so many expensive items, especially if you are registering for individual pieces rather than sets (plates, kitchen utensils, towels, etc.). Also, if your family does not want to buy you presents from your registry, that is their privilege. They don't actually have to buy you presents at all. So, taking that into consideration, they have no reason to complain at all. They can do as they like concerning wedding gifts - your registry is basically a guideline for the things that you and your fiance feel that you need to set up house and an indication of your personal taste. Disregard the complainers.
