What color will my baby's eyes be?

I'm pregnant with my first baby, 33 weeks along... I have brown eyes, and my husband has green eyes.. What are the chances of my baby having brown vs green eyes? Will I know right away once he's born? I know that babies are usually born with blue/grey eyes... When do they settle into their real color?

Both my wife, and i have green eyes, both our mothers have brown, and both our fathers have blue, we have three kids, and all three were born with blue eyes, and have kept their blue eyes (they are 12,15,16) yo, so i cant say if a dark color will dominate over the other, or when they will change to their real color, but it seems my nieces, and nephews eyes didnt change for about a year, but whatever color they may be it wont matter, they will be the most beautiful eyes you will ever see......trust me

My hus and I are the same. My eyes are light brown and his are very light green. At six months, my son already had very green eyes, then after his first birthday in about a week they turned brown. Weird! Caucasian babies are born with blue eyes. I've read they can be that way until about age 2. You will not know right away.

Don't get too concerned about it. It will be wonderful if the baby can see, right? So try to keep it all in perspective. Most answers here talk about dominant. None mentioned recessive genes. You may have the gene for blue eyes but the brown is dominant so you eyes are brown. If your husband mixes a blue gene with your blue gene, baby will be blue. Hard to say. Like I said, let's be happy that the baby can see, okay.

Science is getting us to the point that we will pick our baby's out of test-tubes after checking off the factors we want: sex, height, hair and eye color, IQ level, etc. God help us all.

For each feature, you have two genes. If both of yours are for brown eyes, your baby will either have brown eyes or hazel eyes (a greenish brown blend). If your eyes are *dark* brown, this is probably the case. If one of your parents has a gene for blue eyes and passed it on to you, you could easily have a blue-eyed baby, or one with very green eyes. The gene for brown eyes is a dominant one, so you can have a gene for blue eyes and still have brown eyes. You can only have blue eyes if both the genes you receive, from each of your parents are for blue eyes, or else it would either be dominated or at least "blended" with the gene for brown eyes, which results in hazel eyes. If your husband has green eyes, he most likely has a gene for blue eyes, which is blending with another color (light brown). I'll stop now, because I'm probably confusing you, lol.

I have been told by a doctor that brown eyes are dominant, so there is a much greater chance that the eyes will be brown as opposed to green which is a recessive color in eyes.

You won't know until your baby is one year old what color his/her eyes will be. My husband and I both have brown eyes and my second baby was born with blue-gray eyes. I think they're turning green now, but the doctor says we won't know for sure until he's one. Genetics are funny. You never really know what your baby's going to come out with.

BTW, most babies that I know of are not born with blue-gray eyes. Most of them that I've seen are born with brown eyes, including my first son.

there is no telling what color your baby's eyes will be its all in genetics. you have brown, your husband has green, and baby could have blue! what color does you mom/dad have, his mom/dad? use all of these in the factor. After about 6mon. this will usually when your baby's true eye color will stay. I'm sure whatever color they are he/she will be beautiful! Good Luck and congrats on being a mommy to be!

Theres a good chance of brown eyes and as for when ddo they settle on a color my son is 12 weeks and u can tell his eyes are gonna be grey / blue. Normally by 6 months they are the actual color. Good luck on the rest of ur pregnancy.

your baby will most likely have brown eyes because brown is dominate but babies have been known to have blue or green even if both parents have brown. it takes the better part of a year for your babies to settle into the color they will have the duration of their life.

oftentimes blue. Blue is the main subject-loose eyecolor, atleast between caucasians. Brown is likewise very subject-loose. Many toddlers start up off with blue, yet their eyes substitute slightly interior the 1st couple of years. i've got continuously had green although, and it somewhat is been that way considering beginning.
