We do not have to celebrate Christmas. However, if you live in a Christian country like the USA, Christmas is all around you - in the public spaces (Christmas trees, stores with Christmas decorations), Christmas songs on the radio and Christmas TV specials. At work, there are the office Christmas parties and everyone wishing you "Merry Christmas".
I personally did not like being surrounded and overwhelmed by all the Christmas festivities going around me because I belong to a minority that does not celebrate Christmas (Jews).
Everyone has the right to practice their religion, but there is a feeling in America that everyone should celebrate Christmas as if it were a national, secular holiday. However, Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ and therefore it is the holiday of Christians only. Of course, if non-Christians want to celebrate Christmas, they may do so too.
So, to sum up: live and let live.

We don't have to celebrate Christmas but I know firsthand how the decision not to causes friction in families. For some people it is such a tradition that they cannot break away from it. I now live in a Muslim country and this is the first year I was able to not celebrate without explaining myself. It's nice :-)

You don't have to celebrate Christmas. But, aren't you glad it's a federal holiday? Most people get the day off. I'll bet you don't mind that, do you? Peace.

first of all, i do no longer in basic terms like the be conscious "X-mas" as I see it as taking the "Christ" out of "Christmas". in basic terms a puppy peeve of mine. As on your question as to why I celebrate Christmas, there are 2 solutions; the cultural and the religious. on the cultural area, we interior the west have celebrated Christmas for a protracted time as a time of thankfulness, good cheer, love of others, and feasting for the period of a enormously bleak time of the 12 months. on an identical time because it somewhat is been heavily commercialized, it enormously lots maintains to be this way. As for religious motives, Christmas commemorates the beginning of Jesus. on an identical time as maximum no longer likely born on Dec 25, the reason the day replaced into chosen via the Catholic Church replaced into by using fact of its symbolism and the assessment with the day Catholics honor the beginning of John the Baptist in June. Dec 25 marks (style of) the time while the days start up getting longer, in basic terms by using fact the June commemoration of John marks the beginning up of while the days get shorter. this may be a connection with John the Baptist's words in John 3:30 "He could strengthen, yet i could shrink."

nobody said you had to. Only christians celebrate Christmas. Now I bet you wouldn't care about Muslim celebrations so why ban Christmas. If you don't like it, don't participate.

No you most certainly do not have to celebrate Christmas. Many people choose not to. All I ask is that you respectfully let me celebrate it as it is special to me. Thanks and Merry Christmas to you ,Scrooge.
