Gold miners of the 1849 gold rush in the California mountains. Many peole abandoned everything they had out east and braved the wilderness of the mid-west and the dessert southwest in order to look for gold in "them thar hills." Most of the people that went came up empty but hundreds of gold prospectors tried their luck. Some would find a few shavings of gold in their pans as they worked all day sifting thru the waters of the mountain springs, but most got a big ZERO. A few did manage to find some actual gold nuggets and retire for life on them. The few stories of success was what spurred the Gold Rush of 1849.

Source(s): I don't know my source but I remember the story. Is that strange?

It was connected with the group of people who lost their life in a

valley 76M below sea level, today known as Death valley.

Some member of a group of gold prospector has lost their life while travelling through the death valley in 1849. The survivers including some relatives of the dead who had taken different route, has formed

an association called 49's club. And it still exists today. There is

a museum about the history of the gold prospecters in Death Vally - California.
