Christians love to doublethink. They like to think the Jesus was BOTh a person AND god. They like to think they have just one god, but that jesus is seperate from god, but he is god. They like to say saints have special demi-god powers but are not god, and are also god. This kind of doublethink makes no sense to an outsider, but its inherent mysteriousness is what spiritual and religious nuts thrive on. To their mind, the harder it is to understand, the more true it must be. You need faith, you see.

This is a big theological argument and discussion which I am not going to get into. But, the essence of Christianity is that Jesus was both fully God and fully Human. God consists of one being but three persons. This is peculiar for humans to think about because we are only used to one person per being. so Jesus is fully man, fully god, and one person in the godhead (or being) of the one god.

As to the particular quote--I am sure theologicans have discussed it. I will say--that in the comment you indicate that you only want proof from the Bible. Although, some Christian sects claim that all revelation comes from the scripture, this is not the teaching or belief of Catholicism (the Eastern or Western Church) nor much of Protestanism either. There has been continuing revelation through both reason and faith--both from within and outside the Church. So not everything can be directly rebutted using direct scriptural quotes, there are theological explanations that are usually buttressed with biblical sources.

Jesus is God because the bible also says He is god.

the fact of prophecy of isaiah says God will come down and live among men, he will be called emannuel.

Lol i saw a christian leaderboard locally which changed the words from the bible of Issaiah to saying HIS name will be called: JESUS.

this is simple testimony that the scriptures can be modifired and altered to reflect human theology even if it is not true.

but the question must be understood that people who believe in the trinity imagine that Jesus is the FAther, even thought the biblical verse says that these two have LIFE separate from each other. and that Jesus elsewhere proclaims that HIS god and FATHER are the same GOD and FATHER of all us! in the book of john it is clearly defined that God is the Father of all spirits.

So the bible translates that ALL of us are brothers in the spirit and this is the best Rebuttle for the Godhead and against the imagination of the trinity.

And truly if the trinity is false doctrine which is spread by false teachers through out most history, than most people believe in a LIE who call themselves christians.

One reference is the history of the church by Eusebius.

but if indeed the trinity is false theology, than, the godhead has to have its Day in the SUN as the optimum theology where Jesus is part of the Godhead, this indeed makes him a god and it gives him power and authority in heaven to be a creator. But to fulfill the office of a saviour requires the blood oath and becoming a blameless sacrificial lamb. Until that hour happened I dont believe he was part of the godhead in full and in deed or in completeness

Jesus is God's Word, and therefore God. God's Word was born of a virgin, and called Jesus, which means: God Saves. Jesus was sent as an example to mankind, of how to gain eternal life and be with our Father in heaven after death. Jesus taught by example, and used many parables to get His point across. Jesus also said, "I and the Father are one". Not as one. ONE. He is teaching by example, by saying that man should not call anyone good, except GOD. This lesson would have been lost, had He explained that He is actually God's Word made into flesh, and born of a virgin and actually IS God.

You have to look at the story in its context. In verse 17, the rich young ruler asks Jesus, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" When Jesus said, "Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone", He was responding in the way the man viewed Him. The man only saw Jesus as a good teacher; Jesus was not saying that He is not God; He was simply letting the man know that no one except God is good.

Colossians 2 : 8 -10 .. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit , after the tradition of men , after the rudiments of the world , and not after Christ .. For in Him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily... And ye are complete in Him , which is the head of all principality and power ............... 1 John 5 : 7 .. For there are three that bear record in heaven , The Father , The Word , and the Holy Ghost: and these three ( 3 ) are one ( 1 ) !!! Jesus represented the Word in human form !! Jesus is saying that no one on earth can be as good as GOD in heaven !!

Actually, this is one of the reasons to believe that Jesus did indeed equate Himself to being God. What Jesus was actually telling this rich ruler..if you only believe me to be a human teacher, why do you call me good? He said this because as we see, Jesus said that only GOD was good. (compare 1 Sam 2:2)

Remember, the Bible also tells us in Issiah 64:6 that all our righteousness are as filthy rags so no "human" is good.

The good news (that is what "gospel" means) is that Jesus became sin for us so we can be made the righteousness of GOD in HIM. Jesus was righteous and as we can see, ONLY GOD is righteous. (2 Corinthians 5:21)

isaidso: Tjere were no "Christians" and actually no church until after Jesus ascended back to heaven. His followers were first called Christians at Antioch. ( Acts 11:26) and this was actually intended to be a slur on these people who followed...the Christ...thus...Christians.

Matthew smoothed out this difficulty by saying: "Why do you ask me about what is good?" (Matthew 19:17) What Jesus meant here was he was the way to eternal life not observance of the law. Thus calling Jesus as good is a radical departure from traditional Jewish thought that the way to eternal life was through the strict observance of the law of Moses.

Yes, he is talking about himself. The rich young man called him Good Teacher, and Jesus is saying that he is God. I wish I could explain this better, as there is a little more to say.

I don't belive that jesus is God. He belonged to the early christianes called the Essenes who believed in one God. Jesus was a prophet to these early Christians. Then when Constantine took over the Roman empire and converted to christianity because his wife was christian, he applied his sun-worshipping values to the christian faith. The roman empire's huge influence on christianity has shaped the faith into what we are familiar with today.
