Maybe you are on crack...
He never lied. He knew what he saw. He knew God knew it and Joseph could not deny it.
Too bad there are not more men with that sort of courage. He was truly chosen from the beginning to usher in the last dispensation.
This is one of my most favorite hymns, written about Joseph:
PRAISE TO THE MAN
Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah!
Jesus annointed that Prophet and Seer.
Blessed to open the last dispensation,
Kings shall extol him, and nations revere.
Praise to his memory, he died as a martyr;
Honored and blest be his ever great name!
Long shall his blood, which was shed by assassins,
plead unto heaven while the earth lauds his fame.
Great is his glory and endless his priesthood.
Ever and ever the keys he will hold.
Faithful and true, he will enter his kingdom,
Crowned in the midst of the prophets of old.
Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven;
Earth must atone for the blood of that man.
Wake up the world for the conflict of justice.
Millions shall know "brother Joseph" again.
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

considering that everyone is continually mocking him and the LDS religion, I think he has done pretty good to defend himself even 150 years after his death. Is anyone still talking about your church leader? Hah, I don't think so.
He was a great man, and a true prophet.

I was raised in a Mormon home. When I became an educated adult I convert to another religion. He was a very charismatic and charming individual. i have suspected he may have had bi-polar disease which resulted in hyper sexuality (multiple marriages) and abundant imagination.
Mormons are very sensitive about the historical accuracy and the church itself is reluctant to discuss the personality of Joseph Smith.
I may get deleted for this. But, I will throw caution to the wind.

What makes you say that??
If you got the COJONES for it, you should ask the 12.5 million followers of his teachings and see how they would respond.
Peace be with you.

he was a world-class conman, plain and simple - his history proves this.
some of these responses show an affection for the man, but an immature knowledge of his history.

Schizophrenic with delusions of grandure.

a lie built on the lies of lies told before him. just as the "gospels" of the new testement are all built on fables and myths told before them. no reason to look down on Joe... he got a LOT of people to follow him... maybe he was right when he said that he was better than jesus... hmmm...
