I am trying to make butterscotch haystacks and I've lost the recipe that I had. All the recipe's I have found online call for adding peanut butter and peanuts. The recipe that I had didn't have anything added to the butterscotch. I am trying to melt it so I can put the chow mein noodles in and the butterscotch is not melting to a thin enough consistency. I need to know what to add to make it somewhat thinner without changing the taste.

Not sure if you have a Dutch oven or not....if not, use two pans...place water in the larger and place your butterscotch in the smaller and then set it over the watered pot. Heat slowly - No mess, smooth butterscotch.
