Subaru Forester a small SUV with AWD. A great car very well engineered and they are safe, reliable, dependable and hold their value well. Take one for a test drive. Compare it to other vehicles in its class. It is a good handling SUV.

My wife and I own an 05 Forester XT (2.5 Liter Turbo Automatic) with 56,000 miles on it. We bought it because it was the top-rated small SUV by both Consumer Reports and Car & Driver. We haven't been disappointed. It performs perfectly, very quick, nimble, tight turning radius, extremely reliable and fun. It's our first Subaru experience and it looks like it won't be our last.

We've had no warranty problems whatsoever - everything just keeps on working as it's supposed to.

The positives are: Great power, handling, brakes, heater, little features (lots of nooks and crannies for stuff), very reliable, tight turning radius, good ground clearance, good AWD system, great stereo, seat heaters work great.

The negatives are: Wipers are complicated to learn and operate, auto shift gate is weird - allowing you to bump the stick from drive to neutral while driving, in high winds at speeds over 80 MPH it makes a loud whistling sound from the windshield trim area, on the XT model, the interior only came in black for us, interior is very basic and not as luxurious looking as say a Toyota Highlander, but performance-wise, it smokes the Highlander.

Forester is an exceptional small SUV. Light, nimble, all-wheel drive. Interestingly, they make a STi version not sold in the U.S. that cranks out 330 hp and is only 180 lbs lighter than the WRX STi, scooting it from 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. And this matter because,...... I dunno.. :)
