Help! I can't open Excel?

After working for years, on trying to open Excel, the "logo window" blinks on for a second, and then nothing. I can open Word without any problem. I've tried unistalling and reinstalling Office (2000) both before and after defragging. I've run my virus scans (McAfee and AVS) and found nothing. I even tried using another persons CD to reinstall, in case there was a problem with mine. I still get the same problem. Any ideas?

I had that same exact problem, and I figured out how to fix it.

Here are the steps to fix it:

    1.) Completely uninstall office.

    2.) Go to "My Computer".

3.) Then open up the hard drive that you had it installed on, then go to the "Progarm Files" folder.

4.) Delete the folder that says "Microsoft Office" .

5.) Once the folder is deleted, then you can reinstall it.

This is what needs to be deleted

    c:\program files\microsoft office\ <<< Delete the Microsoft Office Folder.

Did you try and run Office updates? There are several hotfixes out there for Office 2k.

Chances are that there is something hanging on in the registry. When you did the install, did you select "Custom" and then install ALL of the components (if disk space allows)?

I suggest that you try to carryout system restore to a day previous to the day when there was no virus or any problems. It may be a few weeks or months back. You have to decide the date. Detailed instructions are posted at http://fixit.in/systemrestore.html

The problem is likely to be solved. Then,You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at
