what can I do to cope with spending christmas eve with relatives that I hate?

they're not that bad now but they've been quite mean to my family for no reason, and they consider us second class members but there's no way I can quit

omg i have the same problem! my grandparents and aunts and uncles are all crazy rich and my mom ended up being the only child who isnt making tons of money. we have enough money just not tons. My whole extended family hates my boyfriend of 2 years for no apparent reason (my mom said its because he grew up on a farm) and at christmas time they buy all my cousins like 300 dollar gifts and give us a $50 gift card to walmart or something... i just cant stand it! but this is my last year cuz im turining 18 in april so i wont have to go there anymore, i'll go to my boyfriends parents place because they all love me. If your married, start going to your spouses family on christmas. If your not, get a boyfriend and go to his place (or say your going to his place) i totaly feel for you. I hope you find a way out! (you could always hire an assasin haha)

Oh Lord, I know how you feel! Thankfully this year I don't have to go through it as my husbands family is so mad right now, they won't come. I enjoy a glass of wine when I have to be around difficult people. I also like to appear like I am having the time of my life, but daydreaming is awesome! Think of some project you are planning in the new year, such as painting your kitchen. Think, deeply about colors, etc. You actually know in your heart who the second class citizens are don't you? THEM, for acting so ugly. Be friendly, attentive, and do not let yourself be drawn into an argument. If necessary, take a walk outside to let them slug it out! Merry Christmas & Peace On Earth

If you have to be there and there's no way to get out of going, I believe me I have had my fair share of dealing with family I didn't want to be around... I would stay for maybe an hour and a half to two hours tops and the whole time I was there I would smile and kill them with kinds, the whole time thinking these people are such Jack@sses.

    Merry Christmas!

I don't know the situation but I can tell you that it would bother me if I thought my relatives were treating my family this way. I would tell them what I think of them but that may not be your way and if you feel there is nothing you can do but tolerate it then there is nothing I can advise you do differently. The only thing you can do is grin and bear it. Coping with it and how you manage it is up to you but I would not stand by and let such a thing continue if it were me. I would have plenty to say and I would say it.

I'd say concentrate your time on trying to prove them wrong. If they think you're a slob, work on being neat. If they think you guys are loud, work on being quiet. I'd basically make sure I was the best guest they've had in ages. If its only for Christmas it shouldn't be hard to do just for a short time. I'd want to prove to them that maybe they were wrong about your side of the family. Basically it's killing them with kindness. Anything else will only add fuel to their fire and they'll be talking about you guys like dogs when you leave.

Just say 'no'. You have no obligation to suffer like that.

But on the flip side, perhaps by making the effort, you can bridge the gulf between the two sides. If you aren't interested in that, I'd definitely bail - life is too precious to waste time like that. Spend the holidays with people you love and who love you.

    Merry Christmas!

Hey, don't feel bad, because dislike my father in law, but wait a minute, no one likes him....... and unlucky for me............he's gonna be over at our family's house for Christmas, so do what I do, completely ignore it. It's Christmas, and you don't wanna ruin it, by bringing drama, or starting any arguments, so what I do, is don't say anything to him, that way he has no reason to say anything to or about me.......Good Luck

Well, if your over 21, drink till they're funny. Thats my help.

If not, then try to get them one on one, and ask them what the problem is, trust me you won't know till you ask.

    Good luck!

Simple: don't go and have a Christmas celebration with those you do love at your home.
