Which nomination process? I'm assuming that you mean THE nominating process, in which case, the answer is yes, but only if the President wants to run as a party candidate. Anyone can run for president, there is no constitutional requirement that the candidate be nominated by any party. In fact, many of the founders were VERY suspect of party allegiances. They (particularly Adams) would hate to see how our system has devolved to a two-party system.
