    3a=3*5=15

    ab^3=5(-2)^3

    =-40

    4(a-2b)

    =4(5+4)

    =36

    ab^3/4(a-2b)=-40/36

    =-10/9

    thexpression=15-10/9

    =13 8/9

    [3a + ab^3] / [4(a - 2b)]

    They give us the values for a = 5 and b = -2 > take the values and replace them with the appropriate variable:

    = [3(5) + 5(-2)^3] / [4(5 - 2(-2)]

    First: solve according to order of operations:

    PEMDAS > ( ), exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction

    = [15 + 5(-8)] / [4(5 + 4)]

    = [15 - 40] / 4(9)

    = -25/36
