Do you have to pay for the music on a Zune? I know for sure that with an Ipod there is no cost.?

Both Zune and the iPod have their respective online services (the Zune Marketplace and iTunes Store) where users can legitimately buy and download music, so you're inaccurate in saying that "there is no cost" with the iPod--it *can* cost, if you choose to buy from iTunes.

Both also can work with "ripped" files from CD's (that you've legitimately purchased, of course ;) ) and any mp3's that may just happen to have wound up in your possession.

If you downloaded it from somewhere else or ripped it from your cds, it's yours. If you downloaded it from the marketplace you have to pay 79 points per song if you want to keep them, otherwise they expire and can no longer be played.
