There really is no good answer here. I don't particularly like them either, but then you should have known the house you were getting was in an area that had a homeowners association.

They,re useless. That's one step towards communism. If you buy a home, you should be able to do pretty much what you want with it. Of course, there is always the weird, or lazy home owners to deal with. There is also a city run agency called Code Compliance that can be useful in dealing with the weird and lazy. As you can see, I don't like Homeowners Associations. They can tell us what grass to plant, if you can a fence or not, pets, etc, etc, etc.

It is designed to have the by laws, rules and deed restrictions enforced wihtin the subdivision. The downfall of the previous means the overall value of the homes will decrease. Sometimes people forget that when u purchase a home that there is responsibility in maintaining it.

you have them to set community standards.so that you don't end up living next to an artistic type who decides to make a statement by painting his house florescent purple. it's happened, i've seen the house. and the town codes didn't say anything about what color houses could or could not be. but they did say how high the neighbors fence could be. not high enough to block his view, it turns out!!

Source(s): it was really ugly too, with black trim

To keep the value of the homes up in the development.
