Sterling silver should have a tiny mark stamped into it indicating the silver content. It is usually placed on the back near where the stem meets the business end of the piece. Silver plate doesn't have a mark.

New silver should be significantly more expensive also should have markings on the back (if you got it , you label it). Check with home furnishings at Macy's or somewhere like that, to see what the markings are.

Then you can go to the thrift shops and rummage for silver !

In a place that is not noticeable grind off some off of the plating, if copper shows underneath then you just have the plated stuff.

in spite of the reality that chrome steel isn't magnetic, it wasn't in mass production in the past the 1st international conflict. in case your tea pot set is surely previous (one hundred or extra years previous), it extremely is probably silver or silver plate.
