Patterns of inheritence?

What pattern of inheritance would lead a geneticist to suspect that an inherited disorder of cell metabolism is due to a defective mitochondiral gene?

Only the mother can pass on mitochondrial DNA. If the mother has the defective gene in her mitochondrial DNA, then all of her offspring would have this gene as well. If you look back over generations and have a pattern of the mother having the disorder with all her offspring having it but only her daughters have children with the disorder as well, not her sons, then mitochondrial DNA is a likely candidate.

BB x TT gives BT and the BT cat shows both the parental characteristics. This is an example of co-dominance.

    Probably a recessive somatic disorder
