Why do people answer a question with something that states they are looking up the answer?

Is having one of the first 5 answers really that important? Or does it make those feel like their answers have to be best, because they're on top of all the others!?!? I dont get it, enlighten me.

I have done this a couple of times when the question was clearly very important to the one asking and I needed time to verify facts. if it take several minutes many times the trash answers will overwhelm an honest seeker and they will not return to find a better answer posted further down... I also will email if they permit... but many times they have not checked to receive email via YA...

Some people seem to be in a big rush to get their answer in first. I've noticed that it doesn't seem to make any difference where my answer is located in the list when it comes to getting "Best Answer." If it's good enough, it gets chosen, no matter if it's at the beginning or the end of the other questions.

Personally, I'd prefer to do my research and answer the question thoroughly, rather than rush ahead and have to do a bunch of editing. Nothing shreds your credibility like having to completely re-write an answer.

The problem with the Q&A thing is that we all trying to get OTHER people to read our answers, not just the person asking the question. Thus if the answer is higher in the list, more people will read it. Personally, I peruse the rest of the answers anyway, just to see what zaniness comes up next!

I have found that the longest answers get more best answers then the first answerers.

I'm just trying to figure out how to make this one a lot longer.

Oh well I guess it's ok if I don't get a best answer on this one.

But I won't let that happen on the next one.

    Blah Blah blah....

I do that sometimes only to "bookmark" the question. Once you do that it's alot easier to get back to once you are ready to answer it for real. I don't think it's a race to be in the top 5.

.... I know what you mean. I've seen this start to happen alot lately. Apparently, most people want their answers to be seen and not over looked. Hey can you blame them. If you have something to say then you want to make sure that answer is atleast "heard" or in this case seen.

If you take the time to type your 3 paragraphs without the "mark" up top...your answer tends to never be read and ends up in 39th place.

Actually I don't get your question... I will look up the answer for you.... naw, I'm kidding. But seriously.

    Have a great day!

  • They may start the answer and then want to verify?

    Just a guess.

If you don`t know it then pass and let someone who does know, give the answer.
