Why do I feel tired after eating a meal with high GI carbohydrates (like dried fruit)?
I follow a low carb diet, and if I eat high GI carbs I crash- get very sleepy etc. Is this normal? I also suffer from Hypoglycemia at times, although not that often.

Insulin spiking which causes your metabolism to slow and the sleepy feeling.

The carbs turn to glucose (blood sugar) once you digest them, meaning that thay cause a high level of blood sugar. The high glucose levels cause your pancreas to release large amounts of insulin to lower the blood sugar levels, this can cause a sudden decrease in blood sugar which makes us tired and sluggish. It also usually causes cravings as your body tries to recover from the rollercoaster and bring your blood sugar back to a normal range.
