Exercising for 30 minutes a day?

I think that current recommended amount of exercise is 30 minutes per day. Does it have to be consecutive, or can I take two 15-minute walks? Any articles or sources you have would be much appreciated?

It should be consecutive if you want the greatest results. It should also be in the earliest part of the day that you can in your lifestyle. The reasons are because for the first 20 minutes of excersize your body is burning the primary energy source which is glycogen, This is a substance that is converted by the liver from complex carbohydrates and stored in the muscle tissue for optimum contactions. After the 20 minutes this fuel source is exhausted and the body switches to the secondary sources which are body fat and blood born sugars. So if you want to burn fat you need to go beyond 20 minutes. The reason you do this early in the day is because your metobolic rate will stay at higher levels burning more fat during the rest of the day. For some the higher rate can las as much as 4 hours which is why most people have trouble sleeping after excersize.

Most Dr.'s I know would want you to exercise the full 30 minutes at once. The whole reason is to get your heart rate up thru aerobic exercise, and the longer you exercise the longer your heart rate is up. However that is in there world. In the real world it is often difficult to take a whole 30 minutes at once. My Dr. is more understanding than most. Due to my health problems he knows I do what I can. Any exercise is better than none. Just make sure to stretch before you walk. And keep the walking pace brisk to keep your heart rate elevated. Here are some links for you to look at. Hope they help.
