If I had a Chapter 7 discharged July 2000, how long will it remain on my credit report?

    Five years.

    Generally, seven years. My chapter 7 was over 10 years ago and I just found out it was still on my report. You have to contact Experian or some of the other credit reporting agencies to request it be removed from your report. It really screws up your credit.

    It will affect your credit for 7 years, but stay on your credit history for 10

    Source(s): I filed a chapter 7 in 04/1996--affected me for 7 years (very hard to get financed for anything without getting high rates, but in after 7yrs I got normal rates and it disappeared April of this year

    It's now 8 years -- since that's the number of years you must wait before you can file under that chapter again.

    8-10 years but laws vary in each state.
