Well, dressing in layers is a two part process buddy! You dress in layers, such as long johns, a shirt, a sweater, a coat, etc. They key is that whenever you go indoors, take off at least one layer right away.
So if you're wearing long johns, a shirt and a coat, when you step inside take the coat off, your hat, your gloves and your scarf if you have on one. It takes some practice and its not always practical, but give it a shot!
As for the socks: Get socks that are a synthetic/cotton blend and put powder on your feet. If you follow the method of removing layers IMMEDIATELY after going indoors, you should be just fine!!!
A lot of harsh winters in NY. Growing up we didn't have a car, so we took trains, buses and our own feet all over the state. Dressing in layers is a lesson well learned!
