The adventures of Kavalier and Clay, by Michael Chabon, has many intricate and telling themes, but the most dominate theme by far is that of escape. Whether it’s needing, wanting or trying to escape, practically every character experiences at one time in thir life. And all learn that true escape is not possible. The book sends the message that while the notion of escape is enticing, true escape can never be realized. Both Sammy Clay and Joe Kavalier learn that they must confront their problems, instead of leaving them behind.

I think the main theme is transformation/acceptance of our selves and our circumstances.
