Frostwire is open-source meaning many people contributed/contribute to the source code and is free for use. Limewire is not, they have a free version, but also a PRO version where you pay a fee.

Both Limewire and Frostwire are open source (despite what you've been told here) as they're both Gnutella clones. They're essentially the exact same thing. The difference is that Limewire is heading in the direction of possibly adding DRM (Digital Rights Management) to its version. Frostwire was created to take over and maintain the spirit of the original Limewire in case that does indeed happen.
