Why do people down our military?

I`m sick and tired of people downing our troops, if you`ve never been in the military you have no right to judge those of us who choose to serve our country.

Update:

I just want to make this clear, soldiers don`t make policy, we follow our orders, and for the person that said we`re all alcholics, I don`t drink, thank you.

I love our military men & women. To me, there is no greater act than to make a choice to give of oneself for the safety and well being of another. Some of the garbage I have seen spewed makes me long for the days when that sort of behavior was treated as it really is...treason.

Opinions are one thing. Bashing based on political bias is one of the lowest forms of behavior imaginable and something else altogether.. A military man or woman, to those looking on from outside, is not a symbol of one party or the other, that man or woman is a symbol of one of many things this country was built from. Giving of oneself to a greater good.

I can't imagine what kind of person would judge an individual for being in the military. Everyone I know is grateful for the men and women that serve our country.

I understand when individuals are upset with the political leaders, but I don't see how it could ever translate as negative feelings towards the troops.

Delia... how can you make a generalization like all the troops are alcoholics? What's next? Are all Muslims terrorists? Are all Christians closed minded and judgemental? Do all people on Yahoo Answers generalize and write ignorant answers?

Ok, Tammy, sorry sweetie but you might want to sit this one out. Get back to Barbie. (You have apparently never been out of the US and have no idea how other people in the world whose countries we've "invaded" live)

People put down the military b/c you make them very aware of the fact that they haven't done anything to contribute. Therefore, the only way they can react to it is too put it down. It's their own insecurity. Others who haven't served, contribute with support which is more important to a soldier than most people realize. Unfortunately dear, though it goes against the grain and is intolerably rude, they have the privilege to dislike the military and all it stands for. Notice, I say privilege. Therefore, any derogatory comments against us simply makes them look like baboons and should not be considered by anyone in the military. You fight for all freedoms but you don't have to be the brunt of any of them. Just continue marching for those that love ya! :o)

So many people come down on the military because they are ignorant. The media and hollywood have portrayed people in the military as dumb, down on their luck, not smart enough for college misfits. And this is wrong.

Sure some people join up because they didn't have other options like college, etc... But what people are ignorant to is the fact that thousands of men and women who join to learn careers they can use on the outside world. These brave men and women also have a sense of patriotism unmatched by any other country. No other super power in the world has an all volunteer military.

Our country is defended by volunteers and regardless whether we support their mission or the leader who sent them to where they are, we owe them all our undying support because without them, we would not be the power we are today.

While there are those that do look down on the military, I think the majority of the American public is supportive of our troops even if they do not agree with the war. Supporting our troops and supporting the war are not necessarily one in the same. I'm at least thankful it is not the same treatement as those that came home from Vietnam got. Our military members are getting, for the most part, warm welcomes home and people appreciating their sacrifices. The majority of those that served in Vietnam have never recieved that and I believe they are long overdue for recognition of their service.

I've never heard anyone down the military. I've seen a lot of postings that don't agree with what the Military is being forced to do right now. I figure that's because most of the people think we ought to value our military and don't want to see them getting wounded or killed to protect Iraqi's from each other.

i want to start by saying i COMPLETELY support our troops. i back them 100% it's bush and the war that i don't. now that the mess is made it's necessary that we clean it up and i think the troops are doing a good job.

ok now to answer why I THINK people down the troops. i think they down the troops because they are blaming them for bein there in the war etc instead of thinking beyond that and realizing that the troops are there whether they want to be or not and whether they support the reasons they are there etc. some people also i think only look at what some corrupted soldiers have done (i.e. rapings and killings etc) and assume that all of the troops are like that.

Unfortunately, many people think freedom comes without a price. They think our Country became what it is by sitting on our rears all day, and that every person that joins the military is a moron with a death wish. What they need to do is ask themselves where the hell we'd be without our military and the brave souls that protect us each and every day, or if they'd even be alive.

Freedom comes with a cost, and we should all appreciate that while we still have it.

I think it shows their ignorance. I respect and admire the men and women who have the courage to defend our country and hope they all come home safe and sound. Here is a poem written for them: it is called-- NO GREATER SACRIFICE--

I SEE SOLDIERS STRONG AND TALL

YOU MAY KNOW THEM OR NOT AT ALL

MAYBE A SON, A FATHER OR BROTHER

MAYE A DAUGHTER, A SISTER OR MOTHER

THEY PUT THEIR LIVES ON THE LINE EACH DAY

BUT SOME OF US WILL TURN AND FACE AWAY

BUT I WISH I COULD SHAKE EACH AND EVERY HAND

AND THANK THEM FOR PROTECTING OUR LAND

SOMETIMES FOR US THEY WILL LAY DOWN THEIR LIVES

YOU KNOW THERE IS NO GREATER SACRIFICE

SO TREAT THEM WITH RESPECT AND HONOR THEM

UNLESS YOU HAVE THE COURAGE TO GO WHERE THEY HAVE BEEN

People put down the best fighting force the world has to offer because I think most of them like the attention they get from saying it.

Like when all those protestors went to a service members funeral(the solider had died in the line of duty)and said he deserved what he got for being over there.(I am pleased to annouce he did get the %&^ beat out of him). Those protestors showed up to get their so called dingified glory.

Their just a whole bunch of misfits who get off causing trouble.

Pay them no attention, just REMEMBER THE FALLEN AND PRAY FOR THOSE SERVING.
