Help! What is 8u=3u+35 ?

It's for my homework in pre-algebra. I can't figure it out, and it's on my nerves. lol! I keep getting 0. But I know it's not right because the answer has a letter and it goes in a riddle, and it wouldn't make sense if it was 0.

    8u= 3u+35

    -3u -3u

    5u=35

    35 divided by 5u

    u=7

    now put it back into the problem 8*7 is 56 3*7 is 21

    56=21+35

    final answer is u=7

    8u = 3u +35

    8u - 3u = 35

    5u = 35

    u = 35/5

    u = 7

    8u = 3u + 35 (Subtract 3u from both sides)

    5u = 35 (Divide both sides by 5)

    u = 7

    Check:

    8(7) = 3(7) + 35

    56 = 21 + 35

    56 = 56
