My cat is overweight...?

My cat, Theo loves to eat. He eats all of the time and has no physical activity. You try to play with him but he just plops down. He is very loving and sweet. We can just feed him 3 or 2 times a day, because we have other cats that need to eat too and Margot actually doesn't eat much so everytime she is hungry we let her eat as long as she likes. So how can I get Theo to loose weight?

Update:

Well, you know what bethykins? I don't feed my cat that damn much because my other cats have to eat to, now pay attention to questions you jerk!!

You'll have to start monitoring your cats when they eat. Put their food out for 15-20 minutes. When the time is up, take all the food up. If they don't finish, then they don't finish. They'll eventually learn the routine and they won't let themselves starve.

For more activity, you can try placing their food in different locations each time. This forces them to "hunt" for their food.

You can take the cardboard from a roll of toilette paper and close off the ends somehow. Cut small holes in it, big enough for pieces of food to come out. This makes them play in order to get food out.

Count all the cats. Are they adult cats? Now measure 1 half to 3 quarters of a cup per cat. That is the max. Zip. Period. Nadda. Not even the look that could launch a thousand ships gets more food than that. The exact amount is on the bag.

Prepare yourself for fights! The cat that was an undereater maybe never wanted to be. And when rations get this size, it's gonna bring back survival of the fittest urges. She'll follow em'. It will change the relationship of all of them, if you persevere, most likely for the better.

Now, as for the one that needs more exercise. Claws front and back? An indoor/outdoor? Out the door he goes, where he can exercise himself and gain a new lease on life. So that when it comes to exercise, you won't have to... Exercise him and the others when you want too. They will get much more loving with you, too!

My cat was extremely overweight, although she didn't eat that much, and was getting lethargic. I tried the diet food from the vet and it didn't help. Luckily, one day I read an article that claimed that dry food doesn't work for some cats; it has too many carbs and cats need protein instead. I started giving her nothing but canned food (Fancy Feast). I give her as much as she wants; she doesn't overeat. She has lost 5 pounds in just over a year and is acting like a kitten again.

Ask your vet about science diet light foods for cats. Also ask about a prescription food made by hills which also makes science diet, it's called RD. This stands for reducing diet. It is specially designed for obese cats and dogs. Your vet will be able to explain how it works and if your cat should be put on it. It can be fairly expensive but an overweight cat can be very unhealthy and have a short life expectancy. It is a great product that works. It also comes in dry and wet.

There is a cat food called science plan and one variety is an indoor cat one it still contains all the nutrients a cat needs but less calories it is a little more expencive but would work out cheaper then vet bills later on with problems that can occur. you could also move is food up and down the stairs so he has to travel further for it. I wish you lick this is no easy task.

You may have to feed Theo diet catfood in a room by himself and not let him eat with the other cats.

Overweight people have to begin an exercise program slowly. Same with cats. If you can get him to swat a toy twice today, maybe four times tomorrow, you are on your way to physical fitness. Begin all exercise sessions with a pinch of catnip for motivation.

Well either one.. well you can ask the vet or soemthing and when you fill your cats food bowl then don't give him a lot and if you put the cat food outside then put it somewere were your cat can't get it.. like you closet or something.
